Homeshare

What is the Homeshare Program

This program supports individuals over 19 years of age who have developmental, social or other challenges or would like to be placed with a full-time caregiver. Placements are made through family-centered practice as directed by Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) and placement decisions are screened through a strict set of guidelines and series of interviews to ensure quality care. The client, families and guardians will be matched according to compatibility, skills and location. There are several Homeshare models such as; independent housing with supports, semi-independent living, independent living or full-time care giving.

Benefits

Being a Homeshare Provider to an individual with developmental, social or various challenges can have many positive benefits and rewards. There is a sense of gratification in knowing you are providing a safe and caring home to that individual. The Homeshare Provider is also instrumental in providing further support to the individuals' personal development, physical and emotional well-being.

Commitment

Contract lengths are shaped to suit the preliminary needs of the supported individual. Through time, support levels may change as some clients can develop life skills that enable them to move out on their own.

Most often a long-term commitment is ideal for the individual being supported by their new Homeshare family. This creates a sense of stability within their home and a feeling of security and inclusion within their community.

Screening

In-depth screening of Homeshare Providers is comprehensive and includes all the members of the household. This process can take several weeks and includes in person interviews and professional reference checks. Approval for Homeshare does not automatically ensure a contract as there are several factors that are necessary for a goodness of fit for and individual requiring Homeshare.
